3 ways to show your brand some love

Branding is more than just a logo- it’s the very heart of your business. With February, comes a lot of talk about love- romantic love, friendship love, self-care, family love. But today we’re talking about brand love! We’re going to give you 3 ways to show your brand some love by creating a brand identity that truly reflects your business. From colour psychology and fonts to tone of voice and storytelling, discover how to make your branding more intentional, engaging, and impactful.

Did you know that you can reflect the heart and passion behind your business in your branding and designs by filling them with meaning?

It's likely you love your business- it's something you're passionate about and spend time continually growing and nurturing. Take a moment to consider each part of your branding (from icons to fonts to colours, and even beyond design and into your tone of voice and brand story). How much of your branding has meaning for you? And how much of it just sort of came about?

If it has developed over the years without intentional meaning, don’t fear! You can add meaning in retrospect- and you might be surprised to notice what you subconsciously chose that does actually have some meaning for your business after all.

How to reflect the heart of your business in your branding and design

There are a few ways you can do this, ranging from adding meaning to what's already there, to updating and refreshing some of your branding, or even opting for a full rebrand. Whatever you choose, you can show your branding some love this month by giving it the care and attention it deserves.

Option 1: Add meaning to your existing brand

Did you know Apple added the extra 'computer byte' meaning to the bite in their logo years after it was created…?

Take a look at everything that forms part of your visual brand, plus your tone of voice. Start with your colours- do you know the meaning behind the colours you use? Colour psychology is a great place to start to discover what your brand colours mean! You could also think about your fonts and icons- how do they reflect the heart and passion of your business? Are they playful, professional, fun, non-fussy etc? When you discover the meaning for each part of your branding don’t forget to write them down to remind you later. And you can even start to weave those meanings into your brand’s narrative.

Option 2: Update some parts of your branding

If you want to update some parts of your branding to reflect more of your heart and passion but don't want to start entirely from scratch, why not think about a refresh to make what you already have more relevant and meaningful to who you are as a business?

  1. Colour psychology
Feeling like you want to change up your brand colours for an update but you want it to be meaningful? Start with colour psychology. Check out this post with the psychology behind some of the colours you may want to choose and what they represent. Think about your brand and the emotions you want to evoke that really showcase the core of your business and your values.

  2. Fonts with meaning
You could also (or instead) update your fonts. If they're feeling restrictive, or not working for you, think about choosing new fonts that have meaning. This could be fonts that suit your target audience, work well in your industry (whilst standing out), and/or fonts that have a deeper meaning (such as a playful font for a fun brand). You could even go as far as having a custom font, or an adapted font that is made or adapted specifically, just for you!

  3. Imagery
One quick way to freshen up a single area of your branding is to look at the images you share. Are they bright and colourful? Black and white? Serious? Dull? Professional? Exciting? What type of images would really reflect the heart of your business? Start to use that style of image or introduce a subtle editing style. Images of your business in action are gold- incorporating photos of you and your business doing what it does best, really helps to engage people. So why not consider investing in some high-quality (but fun and meaningful) brand photos?

  4. Go beyond design
Have you ever considered your tone of voice? Which words and phrases you do and don’t use? It can be as small as thinking about your email greetings 'hey', 'hello', 'hi', 'dear' and which suits your business’ heart better. Here at Bloom, I tend to use 'Hey' because I want to foster an atmosphere that's friendly, welcoming, and creative. You could go further and think about the tone of voice across all of your text.

Top tip: you can use tools like ChatGPT to audit what you write and tell you the tone it's written in.

Option 3: Adventure into a total rebrand

After looking at everything, you might decide that a total rebrand is what's right for you. Maybe you started with a DIY logo, and now you’re in a position to understand better who you are as a business, what your values are, and who you’re reaching.

Or maybe you’ve just plain outgrown your branding...

You may be able to do it yourself, and that is always an option. But you may want to consider asking a designer to help you. If you’re feeling like you’re ready to make a bigger change and rebrand, this could be your sign to make the investment in professional branding. Now just might be the time to hire someone (like us… 😉) to walk you through the process of creating a brand that has meaning, heart and soul, just like the business it’s representing.

Whichever option seems right for you, show your brand some love this month!
