Case study: brand refresh for Katie’s Style

Katie is a personal stylist for female business owners, helping them to boost their confidence online and at in-person events by knowing their style personality and the colours that suit them the best 🎨

She had an old logo which she didn’t feel suited her business and her ideal clients so she came to us for a refresh. Have a read through the whole process and result we achieved for Katie below:

The ‘before’ logo

Katie liked the art deco feel but didn’t feel like the rest of her logo and her branding was working hard for her so she got in touch for a refresh.

The process

We started with a call to talk about her business, including who she serves and how she helps them, in addition to learning more about the passion behind her business (why she does it). In this call, it became clear that colour is a very important part of what she does. She helps clients to find the colours that suit them best, by bringing out the best of their features and boosting their confidence simultaneously.

As she’s the face of her brand, we discovered it would be key to use some of her personal colours in her branding so that the content she shares works well with the clothes she often wears when she shows up in person and online. Creating this consistent experience helps to build trust for her brand and makes her more recognisable to her target audience at a glance.

Following this call, we went away and brainstormed ideas for her branding landing on one that combined her love for an art deco style with a modern twist and her light cool colour palette.

The result

Building confidence

Part of our consultation call with Katie revealed that she often works with women who used to feel confident (or at least more so than they do now) and now feel much less confident in what to wear and how to style it. She works with them to build them back up and become even more confident than they ever were in knowing what clothes and accessories to choose and invest in that will suit them well and make them feel great. This is what inspired the shape of the coloured block under the ‘Kat’ of Katie. It also doubles as a simple view of clothes on a railing, as they might look stored together in a wardrobe.

Colours with purpose

Katie’s brand colour palette has been inspired by her own colour analysis result: Light & Cool. Pinks, purples, and aquas work well to highlight Katie’s best features and as a stylist who knows her own style, she’s often wearing these colours in blocks or patterns. Not only do they suit Katie but they also form part of a bright, happy, welcoming palette which suits her business and will likely appeal to her target audience (females in business).

Assets

We developed a small suite of branding assets for Katie to use in her content, including a couple of ‘KS’ icon variations, a couple of coloured underline variations (for different sizes and uses), and her logo in two different colour ways (for dark and light backgrounds). We also checked she had a variety of on-brand accessible colour combinations for easy readability too.

Designs

Katie got to work designing her own materials off the back of her rebrand, and we shared some advice to help her to improve her DIY designs for her new roller banner and business cards. We love to empower our clients to use their branding in the way that suits them best - if DIY-ing their social content and printed materials is the way they’d like to go, then we’re on-hand to help them get started and stay on-brand. If having done-for-you designs made is the way they’d like to go, we offer a wide selection of design services (for print and digital) and retainers. As the team who crafts your brand identity, we’re ready to help you roll this out across all of your platforms and materials.
