Building your Business Story
Michelle Smith continues our guest blog series. Once a month, we share a guest blog post from an industry expert. Michelle is a small business coach, trainer and NLP Practitioner who helps busy small business owners to reduce stress and chaos.
In this post, Michelle shares a quick win for building your business story (an essential tool to get you started with where your brand is right now, and where you want it to be strategically).
Hi, I’m Michelle, a small business coach, trainer and NLP Practitioner. I help busy small business owners like you to remove stress and chaos from your business, so that you free up time for the important things in life. My weekly email, The Quick Win, delivers hints, tips and inspiration to mailboxes up and down the land.
Are you familiar with the term ‘working on your business’ rather than ‘working in it’? Sometimes, when we’re so busy doing all the things, delivering to our clients and customers and just keeping afloat, it can be easy to stop working on your business.
So I wanted to share a really quick and easy task with you today that’ll help to get you started with where your brand is right now, and where you want it to be strategically.
If you haven’t already, have a go at committing your business story to paper.
Why? Well because:
It creates a human connection:
Your business story humanises your brand, making it relatable to customers and clients. Establishing a human connection fosters trust and loyalty among customers, as they connect emotionally with the narrative behind your business.
It makes you memorable:
A well-crafted story is memorable and helps your business stand out. A memorable story increases brand recall, making your business more likely to be top-of-mind when customers need the products or services that you offer.
It creates differentiation:
Your story sets you apart from competitors in a crowded market. Highlighting what makes your business unique, strengthens your position in the market, attracting customers who resonate with your distinctive story.
It creates engagement and interest:
A captivating story grabs the interest of your audience. Engaged customers are more likely to explore your products or services, share your story, and become advocates for your brand.
It provides inspiration:
Sharing challenges and triumphs inspires customers and clients. Your story can motivate and resonate with customers facing similar challenges, creating a sense of shared experience and encouraging brand loyalty.
Storytelling as a Marketing Tool:
Storytelling is a powerful marketing tool. Integrating your story into marketing materials, such as social media posts or website content, enhances the overall effectiveness of your marketing strategy.
It builds trust:
A transparent and authentic story builds trust with customers and clients. Trust is a key factor in customer loyalty. A trustworthy brand is more likely to retain customers and receive positive recommendations.
So if you create a compelling business story, you’ll tell the world what you uniquely bring with your brand. You’ll create lots of content that you can repurpose too! But more importantly, you’ll start to build a real picture of you, your brand and where you’re heading in your business.
I’ve created a little cheat sheet to help you get started. It’s fun once you get going! And I can guarantee that the only person with your story is you, so why not celebrate that?
